Nelson is a historic ghost town located along Nevada State Route 165, approximately 8 miles southeast of its junction with U.S. Route 95. Originally known as Eldorado in 1775, the area was the site of one of the first major gold strikes in Nevada and experienced a significant mining boom starting in 1861. The community was named for Charles Nelson, a camp leader who was killed in 1897. Today, the area is a popular destination for photography and weddings, featuring vintage structures, rustic artifacts, and a scenic desert landscape set against mountain backdrops. It is situated near the Colorado River and is approximately 25 miles from Boulder City.
